Former Republican Kansas Senator Bob Dole wrote some hilarious punchlines in his final days. At his funeral on Friday, his daughter, Robin read his farewell letter in the Washington National Cathedral.
“As I make the final walk on my life’s journey I do so without fear because I know that I will again not be walking alone. I know that God will be walking with me. I also confess that I’m a bit curious to learn if I am correct in thinking that heaven will look a lot like Kansas and to see, like others who have gone before me, if I will still be able to vote in Chicago.”
Senator Dole passed away at the age of 98 on Sunday from lung cancer. Back in February, he had announced that he was seeking treatment for his stage four lung cancer. Dole was also one of the last serving officers from World War II. He served as an Army lieutenant. He was a brave person and suffered multiple near-fatal injuries while carrying a fellow soldier to safety. His injuries left him permanently disabled from his right arm.
Senator Dole served in the U.S. Senate for 27 years and was also the Senate Majority leader twice.
