Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson Teases Presidential Run

In an era where politicians who feel less like politicians fare far stronger than classical politicians, Hollywood megastar Dwayne “The Rock” Johnson hints at making a run for the White House following a fascinating poll that signaled significant support for the former WWF champion.

“Not sure our Founding Fathers ever envisioned a six-four, bald, tattooed, half-Black, half-Samoan, tequila drinking, pick up truck driving, fanny pack-wearing guy joining their club – but if it ever happens it’d be my honor to serve the people”

The Piplsay poll, the poll that encouraged his hint, found that nearly half of the 30,000 people surveyed would support his candidacy. In fact, the poll uncovered support for a number of celebrities for elected offices, with 29% supporting campaigns by both Johnson for president and actor Matthew McConaughey for Texas governor.

Alongside Johnson, Angelina Jolie pulled in 30%, 27% supported Oprah Winfrey, and another 22% stood behind Tom Hanks. A combined 63 percent believed that Hollywood stars would “make good politicians” if they had “political aptitude” or “the right team in place.”

Of course, this marks only another instance of The Rock openly considering a serious campaign for the White House. Speaking in February with USA Today about his new sitcom “Young Rock, he admitted his interest in running for President if “that’s what the people wanted.”

“I would consider a presidential run in the future if that’s what the people wanted,” he said. “Truly I mean that, and I’m not flippant in any way with my answer. That would be up to the people…So I would wait, and I would listen. I would have my finger on the pulse, my ear to the ground.”

For an indication of the nature of his campaign, Johnson described himself as a “centrist” while he endorsed Joe Biden for the Presidency in September.

“As a political independent & centrist, I’ve voted for both parties in the past,” Johnson tweeted. “In this critical presidential election, I’m endorsing [Joe Biden] & [Kamala Harris]. Progress takes courage, humanity, empathy, strength, KINDNESS & RESPECT. We must ALL VOTE[.]”
