After being suspended from The View for her controversial statements about the Holocaust, Whoopi Goldberg is “insulted” and “humiliated” and may quit the show altogether, according to reports.
Whoopi Goldberg and her cohosts were discussing the school-wide banning of Art Spiegelman’s Pulitzer Prize-winning graphic novel “Maus” when Goldberg said that the Holocaust was not motivated by race. This remark caused many people to voice their anger online.
In response to the backlash, ABC released a statement saying that Whoopi’s remarks were “offensive and unacceptable.” The network also announced that Whoopi would be taking a “ hiatus” from the show for one week.
Now, a source close to Whoopi is speaking out about the situation and revealing that the actress is “livid” over her suspension.
“Whoopi is livid that ABC issued a statement saying her remarks were offensive and unacceptable,” the source told HollywoodLife. “She feels humiliated that she has been suspended and is threatening to quit The View because her ego has been hurt.”
The source added that Whoopi is “particularly upset” because she doesn’t think she did anything wrong and she feels like she’s being “singled out” for her comments.
“She doesn’t think she did anything wrong and feels like she is being singled out when other hosts on the show have made similar statements in the past without any consequences,” the source said.
Whoopi has not yet commented on her suspension from The View. It is unclear if she will return to the show when her one-week hiatus is up.
She did comment immediately after the incident on Twitter.
“On today’s show, I said the Holocaust is not about race, but about man’s inhumanity to man,” she began. “I should have said it is about both. The Jewish people around the world have always had my support and that will never waiver. I’m sorry for the hurt I have caused.”
She then proceeded to apologize again in the following show ahead of her suspension: “I tweeted about it last night but I kind of want you to hear it from me directly. I feel a responsibility. My words upset so many people, which was never my intention. I understand why. The information I got was really helpful.
“I said the Holocaust wasn’t about race and was instead about man’s inhumanity to man. It is indeed about race because Hitler and the Nazis considered Jews to be the inferior race.”
“Words matter and mine are no exception. I regret my comments and I stand corrected.”
The Holocaust was one of the darkest periods in human history. Millions of Jews were systematically persecuted and murdered by the Nazi regime during World War II. The Holocaust is a reminder of the terrible things that can happen when bigotry and hatred are allowed to flourish.
While it is true that the Holocaust was not about race, it was certainly about bigotry and hatred. The Nazi regime targeted Jews because of their religious beliefs. They saw Jews as an inferior race and believed that they needed to be eradicated from society.
The Holocaust is a reminder of the need to stand up to bigotry and hatred in all forms. We must never allow such terrible things to happen again.
On the View, they all tend to think they know everything about everything. And, if Whoopi is half as smart as the thinks she is, she will hang onto that job. Where else would she be paid as well as she is for doing what she does…speak about things she knows nothing about!!!
