On Tuesday evening, the House Republicans got ahead of Biden’s SOTU speech by requesting debt limitations. Moreover, they also criticized Biden’s handling of the Chinese spy balloon.

On Monday evening, before Biden’s SOTU address, House Speaker Kevin McCarthy asked for cuts in spending as a prerequisite to reaching an agreement with the GOP.

McCarthy insisted that the president should help Congress by proposing a balanced budget that will ensure the upcoming American generations will not be threatened by the national debt.

According to The Hill, last week, Biden demanded a “clean” increase in the debt ceiling with no other conditions.

McCarthy stated:

“The greatest threat to our future is our national debt. We are already changing the behavior of this government. The runaway spending in the last few years – it’s over.”

He added:

“Now we must return Washington to a basic truth: Debt matters. The debt limit is one of the most important opportunities Congress has to change course.”

The Biden administration is experiencing the highest levels of unemployment and inflation that the U.S. has ever faced in the past 52 years. On the other hand, House GOP members are pressurizing Biden over the economy.

According to The Hill’s report, the Ways and Means Committee conducted an open hearing in Petersburg, West Virginia, where they discussed the problems the American economy is facing.

Chairman of the committee, Rep. Jason Smith, grilled the Biden administration for “high energy bills, declining real wages, labor shortages, spikes in interest rates.”

According to the report by Politico, on Monday, McCarthy, along with several other Republican House members argued with several Democratic leaders to come up with a bipartisan resolution that condemns Joe Biden’s poor handling of China’s spy balloon,

On Sunday, House Intelligence Committee Chairman, Rep. Mike Turner, stated on NBC’s “Meet the Press”:

“Clearly, the president taking it down over the Atlantic is… sort of like tackling the quarterback after the game is over. The satellite had completed its mission. This should never have been allowed to enter the United States, and it never should’ve been allowed to complete its mission.”
