Karine-Jean Pierre was roasted by Peter Doocy after she refused to answer his question about whether or not President Biden favors any limits on abortion.
The exchange started when Doocy asked Jean-Pierre if President Biden favored any limits on abortion and the press secretary danced around the question and never gave a straight answer.
This led to Doocy calling out Jean-Pierre for not answering the question directly and accusing her of being “evasive.”
“I think you’re being evasive,” Doocy said. “The president’s position on abortion is no secret. He’s been very clear about it. And so I’m just wondering, does he still believe that there should be no limits on abortion, period?”
Jean-Pierre responded by saying that the president’s position on abortion is “clear” and that he has been “consistent” on the issue.
However, she still refused to answer the question directly and said that it was up to individual women to make their own decisions about their bodies.
“I think the president’s position is clear, and he’s been consistent on this,” Jean-Pierre said. “And I think what’s important here is that we’re talking about a woman’s right to choose. And that is something that is between a woman and her doctor.”
Doocy continued to press Jean-Pierre on the issue and asked if she could “unequivocally state” that President Biden believes there should be no limits on abortion.
Jean-Pierre responded by saying that the president’s position is “clear” but again refused to answer the question directly.
“The president’s position is clear, Peter,” Jean-Pierre said. “And I think what’s important here is that we’re talking about a woman’s right to choose.”
Doocy then asked Jean-Pierre if she could “just yes or no” the question and she again refused to answer directly.
“I’m not going to get into a yes or no on this,” Jean-Pierre said. “I think the president’s position is clear.”
The exchange ended with Doocy telling Jean-Pierre that he would “let it go” but that her evasiveness was “telling.”
“I’ll let it go, but I think your evasion is telling,” Doocy said.
It is clear that Jean-Pierre was not willing to answer the question directly and she was roasted by Doocy for it. Her evasiveness on the issue is telling and it seems that she was trying to avoid giving a direct answer to the question.
This isn’t the first time she has refused to answer a question from Doocy. Another similar incident occurred when she was asked about whether the Biden administration is considering sanctions against Russia.
Doocy pressed Jean-Pierre on the issue, noting that Treasury Secretary Janet Yellen had said that the administration is “looking at” the possibility of sanctions.
“Is that something that is actively being considered right now?” Doocy asked.
“Well, Peter, what I can tell you is that we are looking at a range of responses,” Jean-Pierre responded.
“And so, we’re going to make sure that we have a comprehensive response because remember, this is not just about sanctions.”
Doocy then asked Jean-Pierre if she could “name one other thing” that the administration is considering as part of its response to Russia.
“Peter, I think you know better than anyone that I’m not going to get into the specifics of our deliberations,” Jean-Pierre shot back.
“But I can tell you that we are looking at a range of responses, both diplomatic and otherwise, because we want to make sure that Russia understands that there are consequences for their actions.”
Doocy pressed Jean-Pierre on the issue a few more times, but she continued to refuse to answer his question.
“I appreciate you trying, but I’m not going to get into the specifics of our deliberations,” she said.
At one point, Doocy even asked Jean-Pierre if she could at least “confirm that sanctions are being considered.”
“Peter, I can tell you that we are looking at a range of responses,” she responded.
It’s clear that Jean-Pierre continues to be unhappy with Doocy’s line of questioning, but she remains tight-lipped about the administration’s plans and stances.
