According to the officer, Mariupol is beginning to resemble Aleppo. A Ukrainian police officer in Mariupol has begged President Biden to provide his country with an advanced air defense system, stating that the city has been “wiped off the face of the planet.”

Michail Vershnin, a Mariupol police officer, made a video plea to President Joe Biden and French President Emmanuel Macron, saying that while support has been promised, “what we have gotten is not nearly it.” Vershnin pointed to his war-torn city, which has been destroyed by Russian missiles, and urged the two leaders must save the civilian population.

The bombardment of the besieged southern port city of Mariupol escalated on Sunday, with local officials accusing the Russian military of shelling an art school where 400 people had sought sanctuary.

There was no immediate information on casualties, but the Mariupol municipal council stated the building had been damaged and that individuals may still be trapped beneath the wreckage. Russian military had attacked a theater in Mariupol where residents had sought refuge a few days before.

Mariupol, a vital port on the Azov Sea, has been surrounded by Russian soldiers for weeks, shut off from energy, food, and water, and subjected to constant shelling.

“Children and the elderly are dying. The city has been devastated and wiped off the face of the planet “Speaking in Russian, he said. Explosions may be heard during the video. “You’ve promised us assistance; please provide it. Biden and Macron, you are outstanding leaders. Be them all the way to the finish, “He stated.

Local citizens carry water from a food warehouse on the outskirts of Mariupol, Ukraine, on Friday, March 18, 2022, on territory controlled by the Government of the Donetsk People’s Republic. Vershnin sent an even harsher warning to Western officials, claiming that the city is starting to resemble Aleppo, the Syrian city that was destroyed by their government in 2016, with Russia’s assistance.

“Perhaps you want a new Aleppo. In fact, you’ve almost got it. Please provide Ukraine with air defense ” Vershnin explained. On Friday, March 18, 2022, a Maxar Technologies satellite picture shows damaged and destroyed residential complexes in Mariupol, Ukraine.

Residents of Mariupol have been anxious in recent days to abandon the city and find safety elsewhere. According to Oleksandr Bezimov, a refugee who fled the city, they fled quickly after a bomb exploded in the city and took just a few personal goods with them.

“When the bomb went off, my wife ran outside wearing my boots, pyjama trousers with teddy bears, and a fur coat since it was freezing in the flat, approximately +4-5 degrees Celsius. So she dashed outdoors, clad in a fur coat. We gathered several items, including undergarments, paperwork, and money. That’s all we took; we didn’t take anything else. So everything we had fit easily into the trunk” According to Bezimov. Bezimov stated that he opted to flee when a neighboring residential structure was bombarded, and that his kid is gone.

“The last drop occurred when an adjacent residential structure became engulfed in the bombardment. When the cannon fires nonstop, when planes fly over all night and assault the city, it is tremendously noisy and makes you feel quite uncomfortable. You should see how people prepare meals in the courtyard of a residential building, and suddenly someone hears an aircraft approaching and cries, “In the air,” and the entire crowd hurries to the porch to seek cover. It’s a terrifying situation. When you wander around the city and notice shell craters all over the place. When you’re not sure who remains where. Since March 2, I have had no idea where my son is “According to Bezimov.
