If you look at the worst tyrants and mass murderes in History, you will see there is one thing they all had in common. They all controlled the information their people were allowed to read or watch.
Hitler took over in 1933. The German government-owned less than 5% of the media within the nation. Immediately upon taking power, he took control of almost all the media outlets in Germany. That included newspapers, magazines, television stations, and movie production companies.
They even formed a Ministry of Propaganda led by the infamous Joseph Goebbels. Their goal was to control what the German citizens were allowed to know. Italy did the same thing. Mussolini founded the Il Popolo d’Italia newspaper. The paper controlled all information.
They censored everything and everyone. If someone didn’t fall in line with their propaganda, Hitler’s SS would come for you. In Italy, if you resisted, Mussolini’s Black Shirts would arrive at your doorstep.
Censorship isn’t supposed to happen here in the United States. We are the land of the free. Unfortunately, technology and social media have made the ability to censor people very easy. More than ever before.
Unfortunately, during the 2020 election cycle, it was rampant. Real Clear Politics reported, “Google manipulated its search algorithm to bury conservative news. Facebook and Twitter suppressed debate about the coronavirus.
Former President Trump, who has not announced if he will run again in 2024, spoke at Turning Point USA’s Student Action Summit. He made it clear the American people must fight for free speech against media censorship.
“If debate can be silenced, if dissent can be suppressed, if conservative ideas can be systematically shut down, then very simply, we do not have a free country anymore,” he said while speaking at the Summit.
Trump often refers to the media as the “Fake News” and often got into bitter arguments with them during his time in office. Twitter even banned the President from its platform.
There were dozens of examples of the media censoring information, providing a slanted side of the story, or simply outright lying in the past two and a half years.
Who can forget the MSNBC reporter telling the viewers the protests were “mostly” peaceful in Minneapolis. They were peaceful for sure but the building burning in the background says otherwise.
Let’s not forget about Antifa and other left-wing groups. Mussolini had his Blackshirts and Hitler had his Brownshirts. The logo or symbol of Hitler’s Brownshirts is almost the same symbol Antifa uses today.
Antifa, much like their predecessors, uses similar tactics. They use intimidation and violence. The group attacks anyone or anything that opposes their beliefs. The worst part about them though, is they do it under the guise of being anti-fascists. The Brown Shirts and Black Shirts did the same thing.
As we near the election season, the importance of free speech and the ability to discern all the information out there, will be more important than ever before.
The coming elections will determine the road on which the United States of America will journey for the next hundred years. Our future is at stake and we can’t allow censorship to determine that.
