Greg Gutfeld dismantled Geraldo Rivera for ripping Wyoming voters who cast out Liz Cheney from her leadership role in the House Republican caucus.

On Tuesday evening, when it became clear that Cheney was going to lose her bid to keep her post, Rivera took to Twitter to offer his assessment of the outcome.

“The people of Wyoming have spoken,” Rivera wrote. “They have elected Liz Cheney to be their Representative in the House of Representatives. I respect their decision.”

“But I do not understand it,” he continued. “I think they have made a mistake.”

Rivera went on to say that Cheney’s ouster would embolden Democrats and make it more difficult for Republicans to retake the House in 2022.

“I think that the price of expelling Liz Cheney from leadership will be paid in blood by American troops in the future,” Rivera concluded.

Gutfeld, the host of “The Five,” took issue with Rivera’s assessment on Wednesday, saying that he does not understand why anyone would want to keep Cheney in a leadership role.

“First of all, Geraldo’s argument is so self-serving,” Gutfeld said. “He’s basically saying, ‘Only I can save the Republican Party from Liz Cheney.'”

“That’s like saying, ‘I’m the only one that can put out this fire. I have to do it myself. Otherwise, the whole house will burn down,'” he continued.

Gutfeld went on to say that Cheney’s ouster was a good thing for the Republican Party because she does not represent the views of its voters.

“Liz Cheney is out of step with her own state,” Gutfeld said. “Wyoming is a red state. It went for Trump by a margin of nearly 20 points.”

“Liz Cheney was never going to be the head of the Republican Party,” he concluded. “She’s out of step with her own state and she’s out of step with her own party.”

Geraldo Rivera: “Whatever your politics, we should all recognize Liz Cheney’s selfless courage in standing up to the Trump tidal wave. Wyoming Republicans are going to end her Congressional career today, but nothing will wash away the role she played in standing up for democracy and the Constitution.

Greg Gutfield: “[S]crew what millions of voters care about: crime, inflation, the border, bureaucracy & covid -we really should rally around a rich elite who’s settling an emotional score,” he wrote. “NO- her selfish desires killed her political career, as it should. its the opposite of selfless, & she paid.”

Geraldo Rivera: “‘Her selfish desires…?’ Like what, refusing to drink the Trump KoolAid?”
Rivera accused the voters of being “brainwashed” and “suckers” for believing in election fraud conspiracy theories.

Fox News’s Greg Gutfeld quickly shut down Rivera’s attacks, pointing out that Cheney had made her entire reelection campaign about getting revenge on former President Donald Trump.

“Liz Cheney turned her entire election around one thing, and that was to go after Trump,” Gutfeld said. “That was it. And the people of Wyoming said, ‘We don’t really care about that.'”

Gutfeld went on to say that Cheney’s focus on Trump was a “miscalculation” because she should have been talking about issues that matter to the people of Wyoming.

“The people of Wyoming said, ‘You know what? We don’t really care about that. We care about things that are important to us,'” Gutfeld continued. “And I think that’s what Liz Cheney miscalculated.”

Cheney was one of ten House Republicans who voted to impeach Trump in January, and she has been a vocal critic of the former president since he left office.
