The Oklahoma State Senate passed a revised version of a bill on Wednesday that would rename a highway within the state after former President Donald Trump.
The revised version of Senate Bill 624 addresses memorial bridge and highway designations. The revision removes the requirement that someone must be deceased for at least three years before having a highway named after them. Following the revision, the state will now be naming a highway within the Oklahoma panhandle after the former president. The bill proposes to name the section of State Highway 287 beginning at the municipal limits of Boise City extending southeast to the Oklahoma-Texas border in Cimarron County to be designated as the “President Donald J. Trump Highway.”
The Department of Transportation will also be directed to place suitable markers bearing the new name on the highway. While the House of Representatives passed a bill in late April, the Senate passed a revised version of the bill. The revised version will be sent back to the House. The measure states that the signage for the President Donald J. Trump Highway will be paid for by authors and co-authors of the bill. The former president still shows popularity within the party and has hinted at a possible 2024 presidential run.
