Republicans Matt Gaetz and Lauren Boebert, representatives from Florida and Colorado respectively, have come under a lot of criticism.

They were two of the more vocal holdouts demanding changes before jumping on the Kevin-McCarthy-for-House-Speaker bandwagon.

Many criticized them and the 4-days it took to elect a new House speaker. The process was described as chaotic and embarrassing.

Vanity Fair referred to the Congressman and Congresswoman as being “among the very worst of the worst.”

The Hill called Gaetz “a political showman” and said he “was at the center of it all, winning more time on camera.”

The two of them defended themselves on the “Hannity Hot Seat” on Fox News. Gaetz said, “[T]his has never been about me or Kevin McCarthy. It’s about the American people. And the American people want to know that the rules of the House of Representatives would never allow something like this terrible, horrendous omnibus bill to ever pass ever again.”

“And that’s what Congresswoman Boebert and I have been working on.”

Boebert added, “Nothing could be further from the truth. Myself, Matt Gaetz and every single one of the 20 conservatives that demanded these changes did so for the good of the country: Full stop.”

Gaetz and Boebert have proven that that was their goal by getting House Speaker McCarthy to agree to release all the security footage from the January 6th Capitol Riot.

The footage has been hidden from the American people for more than two years. We’ve only seen biased coverage of the events of that day and deserve to know what really happened.

“The American people deserve to know the truth about what happened on January 6th. We have demanded to see all the footage. Transparency is coming,” Gaetz said. “Every time from the JFK files to 9/11, to now January 6th. It’s our own government, our own Department of Justice that seems to stand in the way of transparency,” Gaetz told Tucker Carlson on his Fox News prime-time program, Tucker Carlson Tonight.

He also doubled down on his call for C-SPAN coverage. “If we had cameras on the floor, my suspicion is we would have far better attendance during debates that impact the lives of our fellow Americans.”

Boebert added on her Twitter account: “Speaker McCarthy says he’ll be releasing ALL the footage from January 6th. Considering all the public has seen are edited clips from a bunch of Democrats with an axe to grind, it sure will be nice to get some unbiased footage.”

Gaetz is proud of standing up for his constituents. He told Sean Hannity of Fox News, “[W]e’re at the stage right now where I’m running out of stuff to ask for – read the bills, have a balanced budget, have a broader plan. Kevin McCarthy is agreeing to all these things.”

“And again, it’s never been about him. It’s been about draining the swamp; making this a more honest, transparent, open place.”

Boebert rejected all of the talking points about Republican infighting. She believes that the debate and dissent over the speakership will bring about a more unified party that is “more prepared to lead and govern going forward.”

She echoed the sentiment of many conservatives saying that our Republican representatives need to come together to “offer conservative solutions and bring forth ‘historic fundamental changes in D.C.'”
