Former Trump Press Secretary Subpoenaed in Congress Investigation of US Capitol Attack

The U.S. House of Representatives committee investigating last year’s deadly Capitol riot has issued a subpoena to Judd Deere, a former communications assistant to former President Donald Trump, CNN reported on Friday. According to CNN, the committee is seeking records and a deposition from Deere, who assisted in “formulating (the) White House’s reaction to the January 6 incident as it occurred,” citing a letter accompanying the subpoena.

During the transition phase leading up to Biden’s inauguration on Jan. 20, 2021, Deere served as the primary link between Trump’s communications staff and those of President Joe Biden. When Trump left the West Wing that day, he was the final press spokesperson. Deere could not be reached for comment right away.

On Jan. 6, 2021, thousands of Trump supporters attacked the Capitol after he falsely claimed at a nearby event that his election failure was the result of widespread fraud. The House committee subpoenaed Trump’s lawyer, Rudy Giuliani, and two other Trump lawyers earlier this month.
