In an attempt to hit Donald Trump, Green Day tweaked the lyrics of their 2004 “American Idiot” track during their live performance on ABC’s Dick Clark’s New Year’s Rockin’ Eve with Ryan Seacrest.

“I’m not part of the MAGA agenda,” shouts Billie Joe Armstrong, vocalist of the band, replacing the original line “redneck agenda.” The has-been punk-rock band fires political attacks on the GOP to chase clout and gain attention which they once had during their prime years.

Green Day have long claimed they rebuke authority and authoritarianism. Since 2019, this band has been throwing slurs against Trump on various public occasions. Armstrong, during concerts, would shout, “F— you, Donald Trump!”

Make America Great Again supporters, however, didn’t allow Green Day to escape scrutiny as they trashed the MAGA agenda.

“Green Day goes from raging against the machine to milquetoastedly raging for it,” blasts X owner Elon Musk.

Another X user said, “Nothing says “punk rock” like government bootlicking, millionaire sellouts playing on ABC.”

“Here, you have a “punk” band that claims to be anti-government, and anti-establishment in a lot of their lyrics QUITE LITERALLY ROOTING FOR THE DAMN ESTABLISHMENT. 🥴🥴🥴

The MAGA movement is probably the MOST “anti-establishment” mainstream political movement in HISTORY,” exclaimed The Patriot Voice on X.

“It’s amazing how most of the bands I listened to have completely out-cucked themselves and hate our country,” posted another MAGA supporter.

Another hits the punk-rock band for being not “very rebellious anymore.”

“Green Day agrees with everything the government and major corporations promote. They are part of the system.”

Robert Schmad hits Green Day’s age and says “They should be making chamomile tea for their grandchildren.”

“So punk to speak out against the only viable opposition to establishment,” quipped Phillip Ritchie.

The group started in 1987 and was popular in the 1990s. Some of their chart-toppers were “Wake Me Up When September Ends” and “Basketcase.” They have been vocal about their stance against the conservatives.

In a 2016 interview, Armstrong also hit Trump and his followers.

The vocalist alludes that Trump’s supporters were foolish to believe in the GOP leader. “I actually feel bad for them because they’re poor, working-class people who can’t get a leg up.”

Hypocritically, however, these are the same people to whom they want to sell their music.

American Idiot was written in 2004 and aimed to criticize George W. Bush’s presidency and his war on Iraq.
