Anti-gun activist, David Hogg, disrupted a congressional hearing. He screamed at Hosue lawmakers for doing nothing to stop gun violence before security dragged him out.

He interrupted a markup for H.R. 2814, the Equal Access to Justice for Victims of Gun Violence Act, and H.R. 1808, the Assualt Weapons Ban of 2021.

He shouted, “You are reiterating the points of a mass shooter, sir, sir, you are perpetuating violence, you are perpetuating violence, stop these things now. Guess what? Those guns are coming from the United States of America. They aren’t coming from Mexico.”

Fox News reported:

During Wednesday’s hearing, tempers ran high. Apart from Hogg’s disruption, lawmakers accused each other of political maneuvering and being insensitive to gun violence.

“We all respect the Second Amendment, but it’s not without limits,” said Rep. David Cicilline, D-R.I. “Imagine how much we could get accomplished if we clung to the desire to protect our children and communities as tightly as some of my colleagues cling to their rifles.”

Hogg’s outburst came while the Senate Judiciary Committee was hearing testimony across the Capitol from the mayor of Highland Park, Illinois. The community was wracked by a mass shooting over the July 4th weekend that left seven dead and at least 48 wounded.

“Less than a minute is all it took for a person with an assault weapon to shoot 83 rounds into a crowd, forever changing so many lives,” Mayor Nancy Rotering told the panel. “Is this freedom?”

Hogg shared the video on his Twitter account. He said, “The guns in Parkland, Buffalo, El Paso, didn’t come from Mexico.”

“They came from the US, and the shooters were inspired by racist, anti-black, anti-immigrant manifestos that rhyme with GOP talking points.”

President Biden recently signed the nation’s first new gun control law in almost 30 years.

The bill passed with GOP support expands background checks and incentivizes “red flag laws.”

The Republicans that were in support of the bill are Reps. Liz Cheney of Wyoming, Adam Kinzinger of Illinois, Tom Rice of South Carolina, John Katko of New York, Chris Jacobs of New York, Maria Salazar of Florida, Brian Fitzpatrick of Pennsylvania, Peter Meijer of Michigan, Fred Upton of Michigan, Anthony Gonzalez of Ohio, Steve Chabot of Ohio, Mike Turner of Ohio, David Joyce of Ohio and Tony Gonzales of Texas.

This bill was pushed through in light of the recent mass shootings.

However, the Uvalde shooter and the July 4th shooter legally obtained their weapons.

Senate Minority Leader Mitch McConnell supported the bill and said it “will help make these horrifying incidents less likely while fully upholding the Second Amendment rights of law-abiding citizens.”
