Andrew Giuliani, son of former New York mayor Rudy Giuliani, who announced his bid for Governor in May of this year, has received no support from New York Republicans in his campaign.
During a meeting of New York GOP county leaders, a straw poll was taken to decide who would be the presumed Republican candidate to run against incumbent Andrew Cuomo in the 2022 general election. Lee Zeldin was informally appointed to be the Rebublican candidate by receiving 85% of the vote (New York GOP). Giuliani received no votes. Rob Astorino, who ran against Cuomo in the last election, and lost, received 5% of the vote.
Despite receiving no votes, Giuliani said that it was too early to decide who would be the major GOP candidate and it would be up to the voters to choose who the Republican candidate should be. In fact, he tweeted that when polled, Republican New Yorkers chose Giuliani over Zeldin.
Giuliani used to work for the Trump Administration and was a regular golf partner of former President Trump. In 2020 Giuliani announced that he was considering running for the mayor of New York City. Earlier this year, he was a Newsmax TV politics and news contributor.
