The Secretary of State office from Georgia has initiated a probe into the charitable organization directly connected with twice failed Democratic gubernatorial nominee Stacy Abrams after a report from last month revealed the financial irregularities with her charity.

The news media outlet, Washington Free Beacon, was the first to report on the matter.

On Monday, the outlet revealed that election officials from Georgia launched an investigation.

The outlet reported on Monday:

“Georgia’s secretary of state has opened an investigation into ‘financial irregularities’ surrounding the New Georgia Project, a voting-rights charity founded by Stacey Abrams, individuals familiar with the matter.”

The outlet disclosed that the charity, New Georgia Project, is looking at several probes because of alleged mismanagement of the funding by former executives.

The tax filings by the charitable organization have also brought forward many accounting and legal questions.

The tax records have also prompted the authorities to send subpoenas to all affiliated parties.

The New Georgia Project was launched in 2013 by Abrams and became a leading voter registration organization in the United States.

Since 2020, the New Georgia Project and the group’s affiliate the New Georgia Project Action Fund have managed to raise $54.7 million.

The Washington Free Beacon revealed many discrepancies in the finances of the New Georgia Project. The outlet noted that the group paid more than $500,000 in consultation services to another charity which was controlled by Nse Ufot.

Ufot is the previous CEO of the New Georgia Project and he was let go of the position due to undisclosed reasons.
