On Wednesday this week, the office of the previous U.S. Vice President under Donald Trump’s presidency, Mike Pence, declared that Pence will not challenge a subpoena to bear witness for special counsel probes into Donald Trump.

Pence’s recent will to bear witness might be a piece of alarming news for Trump, as Mike Pence was supposed to play a vital role in Trump’s efforts to reverse Biden’s presidential win.

Initially, Pence labeled the subpoena as illegitimate, claiming that the constitution’s speech and debate section curbs him from talking over the elements of Jan. 6, 2021.

Now, Pence is assured that he will be protected from such interrogations, and his office states that Pence no longer challenges the subpoena himself.

Pence’s spokesman, Devin O’Malley, stated on Wednesday:

“Having vindicated that principle of the Constitution, Vice President Pence will not appeal the Judge’s ruling and will comply with the subpoena as required by law.”

Chief U.S. District Court Judge James Boasberg gave out a ruling this week, that Pence has the right to claim that the speech and debate section of the Constitution restricts what prosecution’s lawyers can ask him.

The Speech and Debate section of the Constitution guards lawmakers against being interrogated about the speech and debate they addressed in both the Senate and the House.

Pence claimed that the section also guarded him because the vice president’s role also involves being the president of the Senate.
