During an interview on Monday, President Biden shrugged off his falling poll numbers, noting his run for the office was not because of the polls.
Kyle Inskeep, reporter for Cincinnati’s WKRC-TV questioned Biden about whether he felt that his administration’s priorities needed to be reoriented as his time in office approaches one year. “Well, look, the poll I saw just before I walked in on another station was my polling number is down, but its 48 percent to 52 percent,” he responded. “But look, the point is I didn’t run because of the polls.”
A USA Today/Suffolk University poll conducted Wednesday through Friday of last week reported that Biden’s approval rating hit yet another low at 38 percent just one year before the 2022 midterm elections arrive.
Biden held that his recovery efforts and current legislation as well as his Build Back Better plan would impact the average American in a significant way, “like the households I came from.” Additionally, he claimed his polling numbers were similar to other presidents during their time in office, like Bill Clinton and Barack Obama.
He went on to suggest that Americans have anxiety because of the ongoing coronavirus pandemic and increasing prices at the pump. “I don’t think presidents should be deciding what to do about … look … a lot of people are worried. Think about this. Look what 750,000 people have died because of COVID. The psychological scars that has put on so many people. Schools have not been open because of COIVD,” Biden commented.
“We’re in a situation where there’s a lot, a lot, of anxiety. Gas prices are up, exceedingly high … that’s why I have the attorney general taking a look at whether or not these gas companies are gouging people,” he added.
He also mentioned the supply chain issues that are significantly affecting the country: “One of the problems with supply chain is that because of COVID, we’ve had a real shortage of materials, I mean everything from food stuff to semiconductors. And a lot of the supply chain is brought into the country through our ports,” he noted.
According to Biden, the $1 trillion infrastructure bill would help people as ports are upgraded and supply chains are strengthened. He added that Americans should see projects begin within weeks.
