Biden and Harris condemn recent attacks on Jewish community in US and abroad

President Joe Biden and Vice President Kamala Harris condemned the recent increase in anti-Semitic demonstrations and attacks.

Biden Tweeted, “The recent attacks on the Jewish community are despicable, and they must stop. I condemn this hateful behavior at home and abroad — it’s up to all of us to give hate no safe harbor.” The President has previously expressed support for America’s ally. VP Harris Tweeted, “The surge in anti-Semitic attacks against the Jewish community in the U.S. and around the world is despicable—it must be called out, condemned, and stopped. As a country, we must stand united against hate of any kind.” The surge in anti-semitism follows the latest conflict between Israel and Palestine.

“As the violence between Israel and Hamas continues to escalate, we are witnessing a dangerous and drastic surge in anti-Jewish hate right here at home. It’s happening around the world— from London to Los Angeles, from France to Florida, in big cities like New York and in small towns, and across every social media platform,” said Jonathan Greenblatt, CEO of the Anti-Defamation League. ADL’s report continued, “An analysis of Twitter in the days following the recent outbreak of violence showed more than 17,000 tweets which used variations of the phrase, “Hitler was right” between May 7 and May 14, 2021. ADL has also seen an increase in on-the-ground activity that demonizes Israel and that has crossed at times into antisemitism.”
