Just when New York City Mayor Eric Adams thought he could relax on a plane ride, however, an angry New Yorker gave him an earful on his management of the city, budget cuts, and the never-ending issue of the Israel and Hamas war.
Seated in his chair, a disgruntled woman approached him and asked, “Are you Eric Adams?”
Mayor Adams, who was with his security detail seated next to him, met her with a half smile, thoughtless of the tirades that would befall him.
The New York City mayor was in Miami for the 2024 Concordia Americas Summit, an assembly of public officials and businessmen from North America and Latin America, as per what the organizers wrote on their website.
“Yeah, f**k you!” the woman thundered.
In a 35-second video, the mayor had not replied to the woman, but his expression turned sour.
The unnamed individual continued, “You support the genocide in Palestine. There are homeless people all over New York.”
“People cannot afford food. You keep cutting the education budget so you can fund the police. That’s all you care about—funding the police. Everything is underfunded because of you.”
The city has been in turmoil for the past few days as anti-Hamas demonstrators encamped and disrupted classes at Columbia University and neighboring campuses.
The anonymous woman’s sentiment reflected a recent poll held by the Manhattan Institute.
With 700 respondents and likely voters, the institute asked their views about elected leaders, upcoming general elections, the state of public safety in the city, immigration, and other electoral reform proposals.
“Mayor Eric Adams is in dire political straits. Asked whom they would vote for in the next mayoral election, only 16% of NYC likely voters choose Adams, with two-thirds saying they would vote for someone else,” the Manhattan Institute wrote.
The group further noted that Adams’ approval rating is extremely poor, with only a 24 percent rate, while only 4 percent strongly approve of his job performance and 73 percent disapprove.
Before this, Adams’ job approval rating plunged to epic depths. In December 2023, at least 58 percent of respondents disapproved of his performance, the lowest rating a mayor has received since the polling started in 1996.
Meanwhile, the confrontation between Adams and the woman entertained many on social media.
One user wrote on X, “You have to enjoy when they eat their own.”
