Former Lawyer Michael Avenatti Says ‘Fix Is In’ Ahead of Trump’s ‘Hush Money’ Trial

“The fix is in,” says former lawyer Michael Avenatti in a post on X as the criminal trial of former president Donald Trump in New York begins.

The presumptive Republican nominee faces 34 counts of falsifying business records with the payments he allegedly made to adult film star Stormy Daniely in exchange for her keeping quiet on their alleged affair through his former fixer, Michael Cohen.

Avenatti was Daniels’s former legal representative but was imprisoned after being convicted of stealing about $300,000 from his former client.

The former attorney blasted Judge Juan Merchan, who was presiding over Trump’s case, for issuing a gag order against Trump, and Manhattan District Attorney Alvin Bragg for permitting two witnesses to smear Trump in the media.

“Never before has there been a high-profile criminal case in America where a prosecutor (Bragg) permitted, and likely encouraged, two critical witnesses (Cohen & Daniels) to use the media in the days leading up to trial to trash a gagged defendant (Trump) and violate his right to a fair trial,” the former lawyer remarked.

“And to my friends on the left who insist they want to ‘preserve democracy’ and ‘justice’, you should be equally outraged by this. Constitutional protections either exist for all (including Trump) or they don’t exist for any. What is happening in the hush money case is a travesty,” he added in a post in X.

In an interview on MSNBC, Avenatti earlier predicted that Trump would be convicted, despite his statements that the prosecution’s accusations rely on a “legally tenuous theory, namely that the crime that was attempted to be covered up was a federal election crime. I think that could be a problem potentially on appeal for the state.”

“You know, I think the case has a lot of problems. Now that does not —I don’t mean to suggest that that means that Trump will not be convicted because I think he will be convicted,” Avenatti said.

“And I think it’s going to be tested on appeal when Trump is convicted. And again, I think he will be convicted. That doesn’t necessarily mean it’s going to hold up,” he added.

“I believe if you’re going to bring a case against a sitting president or a former president, who tens of millions of people support, especially in today’s day and age with how divided we are, I think it needs to be a rock-solid, lock tight, nearly perfect prosecuted case. Because otherwise, you run a huge risk as to what it’s going to mean for the country,” he added.

Bragg’s hush money charges against Trump began on Monday after Judge Merchan turned down Trump’s legal team’s appeal to reschedule the trial.
