Though the White House called this latest scandal an “unfounded political attack,” Senator Chuck Grassley and House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer announced that a “credible whistleblower” has come forward with a claim that the Department of Justice and the Federal Bureau of Investigation possess a file outlining an alleged criminal scheme involving Joe Biden, who was the vice president at the time, and a foreign national.
“This comes from a credible and unclassified whistleblower disclosures of this possible criminal activity when Biden was vice president,” Grassley told Fox News’ Sandra Smith on “America Reports.”
Grassley said he believes “the FBI possesses an unclassified internal document that includes very serious and detailed allegations implicating the current President of the United States.”
Comer and Grassley issued a subpoena to FBI Director Christopher Wray demanding to see the document described by the whistleblower.
In a letter to Wray and Attorney General Merrick Garland, the two lawmakers said that they’ve learned that the DOJ and the FBI “possess an unclassified FD-1023 form that describes an alleged criminal scheme involving then-Vice President Biden and a foreign national relating to the exchange of money for policy decisions.”
“It has been alleged that the document includes a precise description of how the alleged criminal scheme was employed as well as its purpose,” their letter said.
The subpoena to Wray demands that he produce all FD-1023 forms “including within any open, closed, or restricted access case files, created or modified in June 2020, containing the term ‘Biden’.”
The two gentlemen believe that the allegation was specific enough to determine the truthfulness of it but it’s unclear whether or not any steps “were taken to investigate the matter.”
“It really boils down to my traditional oversight of government, particularly to see if the executive branch is doing the work that they’re supposed to be doing,” said Grassley.
“So the Justice Department, the FBI needs to come clean to the American people, what they did with the document, because we know the document exists from very credible whistleblower information that we got.
“We really need to know what steps did the Justice Department and FBI take to investigate and to vet the document to determine if it’s accurate or not? And did the Justice Department and the FBI follow normal investigative procedures or did they let political calculations interfere?”
“If the Justice Department and the FBI have any hopes of redeeming their once trusted position with the American people, Garland and Wray must answer this subpoena and tell us what they’re doing with this information that we think is very credible based upon what whistleblowers are telling us,” said Grassley.
Will the FBI cooperate with the investigation? Senator Grassley said he hopes the agency will.
He added that cooperating and giving us the transparency we deserve might help restore its credibility with the American people.
The senator from Iowa has been investigating Hunter Biden’s foreign business dealings and any alleged involvement by his father since 2019.
The White House spokesperson for oversight and investigations called out Congressional Republicans for “attacking” the President. He said they have not offered evidence for their claims.
I for one am not holding my breath.
