Two passengers test positive for COVID-19 on first fully vaccinated cruise set for the Caribbean

Two passengers, among the first cruise ships to sail in the Caribbean since the pandemic hit, tested positive for Coronavirus, announced the Cruise Line on Thursday.

While the Cruise ship required end-of-stay testing, both guests tested positive, two days before the cruise ended. These two passengers were sharing a room and were fully vaccinated. Both passengers are currently in isolation. This Royal Caribbean cruise, the Celebrity Millenium, held 648 passengers and 95% of which were vaccinated. The CDC had given a go-ahead on starting to resume cruise ships, of course with the certain requirements.

All guests were required to show proof of a negative test result 72 hours prior to their departure, Saturday. Once the two passengers’ results came back as positive, the ship returned immediately to the port of embarkation. The Royal Caribbean has lowered their maximum capacity in order for more space between people. The CDC said that masks are not required for cruises, because everyone is vaccinated and/or tested negative. With these precautions it is extremely rare to be infected with COVID-19, but somehow it has happened.

With the CDC coming out saying cruises are safe again, with the needed requirements, people are more comfortable with the idea of taking a cruise. The Royal Caribbean has stated in their Travel Requirements, “If…COVID-19 is detected onboard the ship during your voyage, the voyage will end immediately, the ship will return to the port of embarkation….including your return home, may be restricted or delayed.
