Trump Says He Will ‘Probably’ Visit Southern Border In Near Future

As the crisis on the border continues to thrash the Biden administration and law enforcement on the border buckling under the immense surge in migrants, former President Donald Trump has indicated he wants to make an appearance at the southern border in the near future.

“A lot of people want me to,” including Border Patrol personnel, Trump said in an interview with Judge Jeanine Pirro on Fox News on Saturday night.

“They want me there, they’ve asked me to go, and I really sort of feel I owe it to them. They’re great people, they’re doing an incredible job. It’s impossible now with what [the Biden administration has] done,” he added.

After leaving office, Trump has been incredibly vocal with his distaste for President Joe Biden’s border policy, which repealed many successful Trump-era policies, such as the Migrant Protection Protocol that required migrants seeking asylum to remain in Mexico as they awaited trial. Combined with Biden’s promises of citizenship to millions of illegal immigrants within the country already, the border has experienced an explosion in migrants attempting to cross the border, with over 100,000 recorded in February alone.

“Thousands and thousands of people are coming up right now as we speak. And you’re gonna have millions of people pouring into our country, and it’s going to destroy our country,” Trump said.

“I don’t know what they’re doing, and they don’t know what they’re doing,” Trump continued. “It’s a very, very dangerous situation. I’d love not to be involved. Somebody else is supposed to be doing it.”

For our current President, Biden has said he “is supposed to go,” adding “I’m not looking to have a race, I’m looking to get a problem solved.”

“I’m not sure that I really should do it, other than the fact that I have such respect for the Border Patrol and for ICE,” he also said.

Since tasking Vice President Kamala Harris with leading the border response, Harris has indicated she will, at some point, make a trip to the border, however, has given no timeline for her appearance.

“At some point, absolutely we will go down to the border,” she said. “And I’ve been down to the border and our secretary of the Homeland Security, Alex Mayorkas, has been down there twice. Senior administration officials have been down there and yes, we will go.

“But the reality also is that in addition to the border, we also need to deal with the root causes. We need to deal with what’s happening in the Northern Triangle and address it in a way that is about not only diplomacy but bringing our allies together,” she added. “Dealing with what we need to do around aid in a way that is about developing those countries so that we also deal with the cause of why people are coming into our country.”

Biden officials has largely sidestepped responsibility for the surge in migrants and the disastrous response, rather blaming Trump for leaving them a broken system.

“As we were coming into the administration, we knew we were inheriting an absolute mess from the previous administration — that there were aspects of our legal immigration system that had been gutted and a department that lacked the personnel to administer our laws,” said Julie Chavez Rodriguez, the director of the White House’s Office of intergovernmental affairs, according to CNN.

Last week, Trump released a statement condemning the Biden response, asserting his policies have caused “death and human tragedy.” 

“We proudly handed the Biden Administration the most secure border in history,” the former president said in a statement. ” All they had to do was keep this smooth-running system on autopilot.  Instead, in the span of a just few weeks, the Biden Administration has turned a national triumph into a national disaster. They are in way over their heads and taking on water fast.”
