TRUMP-DESANTIS 2024?: Florida Governor DeSantis edges Trump in straw poll at conservative summit

Florida Governor Ron DeSantis beat former President Donald Trump in a poll for 2024 presidential candidates.
The survey was conducted at the Western Conservative Summit in Denver, Colorado which is organized by the Centennial Institute and Colorado Christian University. The summit hosted 500 attendees in person with an online audience in the tens of thousands. According to organizers, 74 percent of voters approved of DeSantis, while 71 approved of Trump as a candidate.

The question allowed voters to select multiple candidates in an effort to “minimize spoilers and sabotage and give viability and visibility to minor candidates,” poll organizer Frank Attwood told Colorado Politics. The question included Democratic candidates such as Kamala Harris and Bernie Sanders, however, the leading candidates were all Republicans.
Following Trump was Texas Senator Ted Cruz with 43 percent, behind him was former Secretary of State Mike Pompeo with 39 percent, and South Carolina Senator Tim Scott with 36 percent. Poll results published by the organization can be found here. Despite a minimal polling population, the results illustrate top viable candidates for the 2024 presidential election.
