The Trump administration has bought an additional 100 million Covid-19 vaccine doses from Moderna. Officials announced this on Friday afternoon after news emerged that they missed an opportunity to buy extra doses from Pfizer.
Through the new updated contract, Moderna will supply the U.S. government with 200 million covid-19 vaccines by the end of June 2021. This will be funded through Operation Warp Speed. The Trump Administration is waiting on the FDA to grant emergency use authorization.

The vaccine would be provided at no cost to American citizens.
Health and Human Services Secretary Alex Azar stated Friday “This new federal purchase can give Americans even greater confidence we will have enough supply to vaccinate all Americans who want it by the second quarter of 2021.”
The Pfizer vaccine is expected to get emergency approval from the FDA on Friday Evening. While Moderna has already applied for emergency use authorization.
In total, the Trump Admin now has enough doses to vaccinate 150 million Americans against the coronavirus.
On December 17, the FDA committee in charge of verifying vaccine data is meeting with Moderna. Both the Pfizer vaccine and Moderna vaccine use the same mRNA technology and have a high effectiveness rate. Moderna is expected to have approval before the end of this year.
