The WHO Warns of Economic Damage from Pandemic Lockdowns After Previously Warning not to Re-open “Too Soon”
First it was “15 days to slow the spread” and now, here we are 6 months later with many cities and states still in lockdown or severe restrictive measures in place. 15 days to slow the spread was designed and implemented so that the hospitals don’t get overrun with critical patients. Spread of the virus was still going to occur, it is impossible to require millions of people to not leave their homes for two weeks.
After being in lockdown for a few months, schools and businesses wanted to reopen and families and citizens wanted to get their lives back and return to a normal way of living. But the World Health Organization warned of the dangers of reopening too soon and that lifting any or all restrictive measures could prove catastrophic. Director-General Tedros Adhanom Ghebreyesus said, “The last thing any country needs is to open schools and businesses, only to be forced to close them again because of a resurgence.”

But now he says, “We need to reach a sustainable situation where we have adequate control of this virus without shutting down our lives entirely, or lurching from lockdown to lockdown-which has a hugely detrimental impact on societies.”
And Dr. David Nabarro, a representative for the WHO, encouraged that lockdowns must be a last resort and not the first line of defense. He said, “We in the World Health Organization do not advocate lockdowns as the primary means of control of this virus. The only time we believe a lockdown is justified is to buy you time to reorganize, regroup, and rebalance your resources, protect your health workers who are exhausted, but by and large, we’d rather not do it.”
Where was that statement 6 months ago when nationwide lockdowns were first proposed? Why didn’t they stress and warn of the significant economic impact that a nationwide lockdown would have? An impact that we are now seeing and has left millions of Americans suffering, homeless, and hungry.
As Nabarro said, “Lockdowns just have one consequence that you must never belittle, and that is making poor people an awful lot poorer.” These lockdowns were a disaster that left the economy and millions of Americans to suffer. But why is the WHO just now saying that the lockdowns never should have happened? Why are they just now mentioning the harmful economic consequences of a nationwide shutdown that the whole word is currently seeing?
These lockdowns never should have happened. The WHO knows it, the democrats know it, the doctors, the scientists, the politicians know it. The Americans know it and we’re not happy about it.
