The ‘Hunter Act,’ Introduced By Republican Lawmakers, Would Prohibit The Federal Government From Distributing Crack Pipes

Republicans introduced legislation this week prohibiting the federal government from acquiring or providing crack pipes, presumably in response to President Joe Biden’s son Hunter, who has admitted to being a crack addict.

The statute is named the Halting the Use of Narcotics Through Effective Recovery Act of 2022 and is known as the HUNTER Act of 2022. According to the bill’s description, the bill’s purpose is to prohibit the use of government funds to purchase or aid in the acquisition of drug paraphernalia.

(a) IN GENERAL. — No Federal monies, including those allocated under section 2706 of the American Rescue Plan Act of 2021 (42 U.S.C. 290dd–3 note), may be used for the purchase, or to support the purchase, of any drug paraphernalia by any recipient of Federal assistance.

c) DESCRIPTION. — The word “drug paraphernalia” has the meaning assigned to it in section 863 of title 18, United States Code, and includes crack pipes, harm reduction vending machines, syringes, and safe smoking kits and supplies, to the extent covered by that definition.

“Reps. Lauren Boebert of Colorado and Dan Bishop of North Carolina stated in an exclusive joint interview with Fox News Digital that the Biden administration was caught’red-handed’ trying to support crack pipes as part of a $30 million grant scheme,” according to Fox News.

“The funding will not be used to support crack pipes, according to the White House.” Boebert discussed the bill’s motivations in an interview with Fox News Digital. “Congressman Bishop and I are standing up and shouting, ‘Hell no!'” said Boebert.

“We should not be financing the murder and ruin of crack users with our tax cash.” Republicans just want to provide individuals in need a good job, but Democrats consistently put the American taxpayer last. She said, “Democrats want to give kids crack pipes.”

“The HUNTER Act appealed to me because it was a better acronym than the Stop Paying to Subsidize Biden’s Son’s Drug Addiction Act.” Boebert said, “That didn’t really flow.” “I believe taxpayers have been on the hook long enough for Hunter’s addictions.”

Bishop also slammed Democrats’ more progressive drug policies, such as safe injection sites, needle trade-in programs, and clean smoking kits, claiming that they all try to “eliminate all stigma” from drug use while “stigmatization is not a bad thing.”

Bishop explained, “The HUNTER Act is a way of summarizing how ludicrous public policy can become when it’s in the hands of the awakened.”

The controversy stemmed from the Biden administration’s announcement earlier this month of a new $30 million “harm reduction” grant application through the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration (SAMHSA), a division of the Department of Health and Human Services (HHS).

The kits will include pipes for users to consume crack cocaine, crystal methamphetamine, and “any illegal drug,” according to the Washington Free Beacon. Despite criticism from the government, the publication has stuck to its reporting despite an HHS spokeswoman declining to say what is contained in the smoking kits.
