Texas announces plans to build their own border barriers and increase arrests of illegal crossers

Texas governor and Republican Greg Abbott made clear that he plans on immediate construction of a border wall between the U.S./Mexico border throughout the state of Texas.
At a Summit event on Thursday, Texas Governor Greg Abbott vowed to start construction on a border wall, as well as increase arrests of illegal migrants entering the state. The estimated budget for the proposed border wall would be about $1 billion. Abbott addressed the urgency at the border and the crisis the United States is currently facing there.
He said, “Only Congress and the president can fix our broken border. But in the meantime, Texas is going to do everything possible, including beginning to make arrests, to keep our community safe.” Abbott has been incredibly vocal about his disdain for the Biden Administration’s handling of the border crisis, and offered few details in a plan that would revive President Donald Trump’s plan to complete a border wall.
He said that more information on “building the border wall in the state of Texas” would surface next week. It is unclear as to whether or not Mexico would be involved in the construction and/or cost of the project. Former President Trump said they would fund the construction during his first campaign, yet that never panned out, instead the U.S. footed the bill.
