Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell Promises ‘Full Steam Ahead’ on Amy Coney Barrett Confirmation Despite New COVID Cases

Senate Republicans are promising they have no intention of delaying the confirmation of Amy Coney Barrett to the Supreme Court. Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell promised they will be moving “full steam ahead” with her confirmation despite new covid cases or push back from Democrats.

Senate Judiciary Chairman Lindsey Graham has scheduled October 12 to begin hearings for Barrett and a vote of confirmation on October 22. According to a GOP aid, the hearings will continue as scheduled and some may be conducted remotely.

After the President announced that he and Melania have tested positive for coronavirus, Utah Republican Senator Mike Lee announced that he has tested positive as well. Lee says he plans to quarantine for ten days and he believes he’ll be able to support Barrett in the committee. He said, “I have spoken with Leader McConnell and Chairman Graham, and assured them I will be back to work in time to join my Judiciary Committee colleagues in advancing the Supreme Court nomination.”

Republicans are wanting to move swiftly with a confirmation before the election on November 3, despite the loud outrage from Democrats saying the winner of the election should fill the vacant seat left by the passing of Ruth Bader Ginsburg.
