SD Gov. Kristi Noem to send national guard to aid with border crisis—left FREAKS OUT over GOP states working together

South Dakota Governor Kristi Noem announced that her state is sending dozens of National Guard troops to the U.S.-Mexico border.

Noem announced that fifty South Dakota troops would be sent for between thirty and sixty days, and that it will be paid for by a private donor (Fox News). “The border is a national security crisis that requires the kind of sustained response only the National Guard can provide,” Noem said. “We should not be making our own communities less safe by sending our police or Highway Patrol to fix a long-term problem President Biden’s Administration seems unable or unwilling to solve. My message to Texas is this: help is on the way” (USA Today).

This decision is in response to Texas Governor Greg Abbott’s urgent request for help to stem the record high numbers of illegal border crossings at the U.S.-Mexico border. According to The Guardian, US Customs and Border Protection apprehended 180,034 migrants, mostly single adults, in May. That number is up slightly from 178,854 in April and 172,000 in March, and was the biggest monthly total since April 2000.

“On behalf of Texas and Arizona, we respectfully but urgently request that you send all available law-enforcement resources to the border in defense of our sovereignty and territorial integrity,” Abbott wrote in a letter (Fox News). Noem and other GOP Governors blame President Joe Biden’s decisions to roll back on Former President Trump’s border policies. South Dakota is the latest state to respond to this appeal. Other governors have also stepped in, such as Ron DeSantis of Florida.
