Residents of Texas are being asked to raise their thermostat to over 78 degrees and unplug electronics as temperatures rise

Texans this week are being asked to raise their thermostat to 78F or higher and to unplug electronics due to the climbing temperatures that are expected to grow even higher through the Summer.

Texas’ electricity grid operator asked people this week to try their best to conserve energy out of fear of exhausting their system with too much usage. This concern stems from the recent disasters in Texas this winter when too many people were using their electricity which caused the severe power outages that lasted almost a week.

Woody Rickerson, ERCOT’s vice president of grid planning and operations stated “We will be conducting a thorough analysis with generation owners to determine why so many units are out of service,” he also added “This is unusual for this early in the summer season.”

Though it is a tough thing to ask, ERCOT said “output from wind turbines is expected to be lower than usual but will likely increase as the week progresses.” This may give some hope that the rest of the summer should be a normal one [Washington Examiner].
