Republicans FIGHT Over What The Future Of The Jan. 6 Committee Should Be After The Midterm Elections

According to Politico, the Jan. 6 House committee founded by House Speaker Nancy Pelosi would dissolve at the end of the current Congress, and any attempt to resuscitate it would have to be included into the rules of the next Congress, or by a subsequent resolution supported by House leaders.

Some Republicans feel the panel should be abolished, while others predict a GOP counter-inquiry into the incident will be formed.

According to Politico, rookie Rep. Madison Cawthorn, R-N.C., said it would be “asinine” for a GOP majority to disband the panel, and Rep. Matt Gaetz, R-Fla., has requested that it be used to examine claims about the Justice Department’s participation in the Jan. 6 attack.

“I don’t think the Jan. 6 committee can be disbanded,” Gaetz added.

“I believe we should take over the committee on January 6th.” Republicans like as Gaetz and Cawthorn feel that Capitol security should be prioritized by the committee. According to Politico, post-Jan. 6 evaluations revealed deficiencies in the Capitol Police’s intelligence operation as well as an overall lack of preparation for a frontal assault on the building.
