Representative Matt Gaetz Re-Pitches the Idea of Taking on Congress as Speaker of the House to Donald Trump

Rep. Matt Gaetz has already urged that former President Donald Trump be appointed Speaker of the House, and the Florida Republican is reiterating his call.
According to a Newsweek article from Wednesday, Gaetz has proposed the concept to Trump once more if the GOP is able to retake control of the chamber in the November midterm elections.

The author of “Firebrand,” who “has pushed the far-fetched notion of the former president being the next leader of the House since last summer,” told Sebastian Gorka’s America’s First program that he “had once more explored the subject with Trump,” according to the magazine. Gaetz said he suggested the concept to Trump again, but added, “I’m not sure whether I’ve really convinced him to swallow the bait.”
The Speaker is not required by the Constitution to be a sitting member of Congress. To nominate someone for the post, just one vote is required.
According to Newsweek, Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, who appeared on Gorka’s show with Gaetz, said her choice for the next speaker if the GOP retakes control of the House must be someone “willing to fight for things that matter,” such as conservatives like herself and Trump being banned from social media.
Gaetz discussed the 2022 midterm elections and Republicans’ excellent chances of regaining control of the U.S. House in an interview at Turning Point USA’s AmericaFest event. Gaetz discussed Trump as the next House Speaker with Jordan Conradson, and how Republicans might make it happen given Trump’s private status.

According to Conradson “In 2022, we will reclaim the house. Do you think President Trump should be elected Speaker of the House in 2022?” Gaetz said, “People like to chuckle because I was the first member of Congress to swear that I would nominate Donald J. Trump for Speaker of the House, but you know what?
They also chuckled at the prospect of his becoming president. That is exactly what occurred. Speaker Trump has a nice ring to it, in my opinion.” “So, have you spoken to President Trump, maybe Speaker Trump, about his intentions for 2022?” Conradson said.
Gaetz said, “Yes, I have. What I can tell you is that President Trump is hyper-focused on races. He’s keeping track of the donations, polling, and messaging. He’s as plugged in as I’ve ever seen him, and I believe that’s a positive thing for right-wing politics.”
Gaetz stated earlier this month that he spoke with Trump about becoming Speaker of the House if Republicans regain control of the House this year.
