Rachel Maddow Ended Up Getting Her Show Cut Down To Mondays Only Due To Bad Ratings

Rachel Maddow’s MSNBC show got cut down to just one night a week from 5 nights weekly because of dismal ratings.

Her show was replaced by “MSNBC Prime,” a show where guest hosts are in charge every other night all over the week.

However, Alex Wagner is now hosting “Alex Wagner Tonight,” which covers that time slot.

Maddow’s obvious downgrading proves that she failed to gather enough viewers. On the other hand, Wagner’s ratings have hiked a bit, though her launch gained only a total of 2 million viewers, which was not good enough.

In reality, this specific time slot was owned by Hannity on Fox News, which was able to gather 3.1 million viewers.

Maddow, with a time slot once a week, is looking for a comeback.

Maddow’s show somehow managed to gain 2.39 million viewers, which was fair enough to rank it in the top five shows in the hour of a month.

Last year, Maddow agreed to a multi-year contract with MSNBC and NBCUniversal.

This made her eligible to work on a few other projects such as TV shows and movies as the show won’t end.

Even though Maddow was downgraded as she couldn’t get enough ratings, her substitute is also having a tough time getting viewers compared to Maddow.

Alex Wagner’s show on MSNBC, “Alex Wagner Tonight,” started dropping its rating in 2021, at the time when Maddow held the charge.

Wagner’s show ruined half of Maddow’s viewers due to the advertising demonstration of 25-54-year-olds. They had 304,000 demo viewers in 2021, however, it dropped to 151,000 in 2022.

Nielsen stated that the audience fell by 34%, which means it went from 2.4 million to 1.6 million.

A previous administrator informed CNN:

“A 50 percent drop in the key 25-54 demo is a 50 percent drop in your billable viewer. Imagine running a store or restaurant and losing 50 percent of your billable customers. Not your looky-loos. Your paying customers.”

“The Rachel Maddow Show,” which now can only be seen on Mondays, is considered to be the only news show that has no links with Fox News to reach in top 10s for both viewers in the key demo and total viewers.

Maddow’s downgrading was unavoidable, however, all leftist news channels are in the fall, which is very concerning for the executives.
