Not Another Benghazi: US Responds To The Aggression Of Taliban Takeover Of Afghanistan

After State Department promises of no withdrawal at the US Embassy in Afghanistan, the American flag had been taken down and the overwhelming majority of American staff have been evacuated by American military forces.

The evacuation is drawings some parallels according to CNN. They likened it to the hurried exit from Saigon in the 70’s.

There are many asking where are the comparisons of this response to another needed military-aided evacuation in Libya that never happened.

Many of us have sat back and watched the past 24 hours, praying that this was not going to become another Benghazi.

Sadly, the families of those killed in the Benghazi attacks may be sitting in front of their TV and wondering why the Obama administration didn’t have the same response.

But, let’s not forget, Joe Biden said this would be a safe and orderly withdrawal. Yet, US personnel were burning documents on their way out the door.

Roughly a month ago, the President, answering questions from the press regarding the Taliban, said the following:

Answering that a Taliban takeover was inevitable:

“No, it is not. Because you have the Afghan troops have 300,000 well-equipped as well as good as any Army in the world, and an Air Force, against something like 75,000 Taliban. It is not inevitable.”

That quote is not going to age well for the President, given that as of this writing, the Taliban controlled all but 3 of the provincial territories in the nation.

Another reporter stated that Biden’s own intelligence agencies were predicting that Afghanistan’s government would collapse.

Biden’s response? “That is not true. They have not concluded that.”

Just a few weeks before this press conference, the US Intelligence community did, in fact, conclude that very thing.

“The U.S. intelligence community concluded last week that the government of Afghanistan could collapse as soon as six months after the American military withdrawal from the country is completed, according to officials with knowledge of the new assessment.”

The question now remains, what exactly does the re-deployment of 5,000 troops do to secure that nation against 75,000 troops who now have American provided technology and weaponry at their disposal?

It seems to be the equivalent of locking the screen door when when the water is rising.
