New poll finds that 73 percent of Republicans believe left-wing protesters caused the Capitol riot

According to a new poll from YouGov, 73 percent of Republicans believe that left-wing protesters are to blame for the January 6th Capital riot.

According to a survey of 1,588 US adults, taking place for May 24 to May 26, less than half of Republicans (41 percent) believe that then President Donald Trump bears “some” or “a great deal” of the blame. President Trump showed up to the protest against Biden’s electoral certification to give a speech to the protesters. The speech was still ongoing as protesters at the Capital had made it through the barriers. Only 23 percent of Republicans blame Trump himself while 52 percent say he is “not at all” to blame.

73 percent of Republicans place “some” or “a great deal” of the blame on “left-wing protesters trying to make Trump look bad.” One left-wing protester was among the first to enter the Capital. John Sullivan was arrested for his role in the Capital riot and has also been seen at BLM and Antifa events. The poll also found that 79 percent of Republicans feel that the election was stolen. 84 percent of Democrats believe that the blame for the riot falls on Trump supporters and 83 percent of Democrats blame Trump himself.
