“Trump sent us.”

According to a report from NBC News, that is all it will take to prosecute the former President for his alleged role in the riots that took place nearly 7 months ago at the Capitol in Washington, D.C.

According to the three authors it took to write the opinion piece, the testimony of United State Capitol Police officers was all it took to give federal prosecutors all the evidence they need to lock Trump away.

And the testimony revolved around one statement.

“All of them, all of them were telling us, “Trump sent us,'” said Sgt. Aquilino Gonell.

The lawyers who wrote this piece, two of whom were former federal prosecutors, know that this will not get a conviction. They even said as much in their piece.

Pointing to the Anti-Riot Act, the authors agreed that prosecutors must prove two distinct aspects: did the President’s words cause the riot, and did he intend for that riot to occur.

They wrote, “While criminal charges remain unlikely because of the protections afforded to any speaker under the First Amendment and recent court cases that limit the scope of the Anti-Riot Act, the new evidence could help prosecutors to thread the needle.”

One of the officers, Harry Dunn, pontificated that Trump was a literal hitman.

“If a hitman is hired, and he kills somebody, the hitman goes to jail. But not only does the hitman go to jail, the person who hired them does. There was an attack on January 6th, and a hitman sent them.”

This is the same Harry Dunn who has since limited who can view his Twitter comments. But, not before some of it was captured.

Here is the text of one of those tweets from 2019, when he referred to Trump as the “Racist in Chief.”

“Racism is so American, that when you protest it, it’s protesting America! #RacistInChief #Racism #leaveittowhitestotellblackswhatisntracist #IStandWithIlhanOmar #squad”

Law Enforcement Today ran an entire editorial from a former police chief discussing the dramatics that occurred by way of these officers testimony.

Many members of the law enforcement community weren’t buying it. Even the lawyers who wrote the NBC op-ed weren’t buying it.

But they certainly tried to connect the dots, but it remains to be seen of the connections actually create a clear picture.
