Moderna Vaccine Being Distributed This Weekend

The largest mass vaccination campaign in United States history is underway now that two COVID-19 vaccines have been authorized for emergency use by the FDA. Inoculations for millions of health care workers and long-term care facility residents began this week using the Pfizer/BioNTech vaccine, which the FDA authorized on December 11. The second vaccine, made by Moderna, was authorized on Friday and will begin to be shipped to states this weekend.

“Distribution of Moderna vaccine has already begun,” Gen. Gustave Perna, chief operating officer of Operation Warp Speed, stated during a meeting.

“Boxes are being packed and loaded today. Trucks will begin rolling out tomorrow, from FedEx and UPS, delivering vaccines and kits to the American people across the United States,” he said.

The FDA has issued an emergency authorization for the Moderna vaccine on Friday, allowing a total of nearly 6 million doses of the vaccine to begin shipping across the nation.

Several lawmakers including Speaker Nancy Pelosi and Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell both received their first doses of the COVID-19 vaccine.

Perna said that with both Pfizer and Moderna vaccines being released, the government has allocated 7.9 million doses of vaccine.
