Mitt Romney Says He Will Support Vote on Supreme Court Nominee

On Tuesday, Senator Mitt Romney said he would back the Senate in moving forward with a Supreme Court nominee. This would further increase the likelihood that Republicans will be able to replace RBG with a conservative ahead of the election.

Romney explained his decision, saying, “It is based on the immutable fairness of following the law, which in this case is the Constitution and precedent.” There was some questions of whether or not Romney would support the vote, considering his past stances and remarks on President Trump during the impeachment trial. This move comes as a surprise to the Democrats’ hope of keeping the seat vacant until the November election.

The only two Republicans who have said they oppose moving ahead with a nomination are Sens. Lisa Murkowski, R-Alaska, and Susan Collins, R-Maine.
