Kevin Costner plays the role of patriarch John Dutton and has been nominated for a 2023 Golden Globe award. It was a long-awaited nomination.

Yellowstone is in its fifth season and is the biggest show on television.

According to CNN, Costner’s nomination is in the category Best Performance by an Actor in a Television Series – Drama category.

He’ll go up against Jeff Bridges in The Old Man, Diego Luna in Andor, Bob Odenkirk in Better Call Saul, and Adam Scott in Severance.

Costner has two Golden Globe awards for other roles he’s played.

He won the award for Best Performance by an Actor in a Miniseries or Motion for Television for his role in Hatfields & McCoys in 2013 as well as the award for Best Director – Motion Picture for Dances With Wolves in 1991.

On a social media post, Costner expressed his gratitude. He said, “Thank you to the Golden Globes for the nomination and to the Yellowstone team, who continue to make John Dutton a character who keeps us all on our toes.”

Since its 2018 premiere, Yellowstone has had other nominations for awards but not what you’d expect for a show of its popularity.

It received a nomination for a 2022 Screen Actors Guild (SAG) Award for Outstanding Performance by an Ensemble in a Drama Series.

The show also received a nomination for a 2021 Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Production Design for a Narrative Contemporary Program.

Kevin Costner, and his Yellowstone co-star Kelly Reilly, recently spoke about how the show is finally gaining traction for award nominations after being snubbed over the years.

“You always hope that your work’s not disposable,” Costner said when speaking with Good Morning America. “But we’ve been working for four years. So I think the lesson there is we worked just as hard the first year and the second and the third year and nothing changes with this.”

Reilly added, “I personally feel excited that we’re in those conversations right now. Because I think we deserve to be. But at the same time, I know all of us go to work for the character and the show.”

“I thought it had a chance to be relevant,” Kevin Costner stated about Yellowstone. “In that this work is still going on in America and most people kind of take it for granted how stuff ends up at their dinner table. We intuitively know, and we don’t really know. The show is able to highlight at times the beauty of ranching, and it certainly talks about how difficult it is.”

Costner described the show’s location. “We’re set in one of the most beautiful places in the world, and I think the idea of mountains and rivers captured people’s imagination. But it’s a working ranch. It’s how it’s still done. I think it spoke well of that, with its kind of heightened sense of drama.”

Conservatives praise the show for being the opposite of the woke shows everywhere on television.

The series’ popularity shows us that Americans are looking to be entertained. We don’t need or want the woke agenda shoved down our throats.
