James Comey is Testifying Before the Senate Judiciary Committee for Mishandling the Russia Investigation
Former FBI Director James Comey is testifying before the Senate Judiciary Committee at the Dirksen Senate Office Building in Washington D.C. regarding the 2016 Russia probe.
The committee is investigating the origins of the investigation for the Russian interference during the 2016 election. The investigation was called “Crossfire Hurrican” and Comey oversaw it until special counsel Robert Mueller took over and headed the investigation. In December, the inspector general for the Justice Department published a report stating that they found 17 “significant inaccuracies and omissions” from the FBI and their handling of Foreign Intelligence Surveillance Act (FISA) applications to surveil a former Trump campaign aide, Carter Page. But the report did find that the FBI was justified in launching the investigation.
Lindsey Graham is Chairman for the Senate Judiciary Committee and for a long time has accused the FBI for mishandling the investigation as well as illegally obtaining secret warrants backed by flawed information and uncorroborated claims from a dossier, that has since been quashed, composed by Christopher Steele, a former British spy, to monitor Carter Page, a former Trump campaign advisor.
Earlier this month Graham said, “The day of reckoning is upon us when it comes to Crossfire Hurricane.”
Graham also said they will be seeking testimony from former FBI agent Peter Strzok, FBI lawyer Lisa Page, and former FBI Deputy Director Andrew McCabe.
