“I Think That Was a Mistake”: Barack Obama Finally Admits To Major Mistake Involving Iran Back In 2009

The infamous morality police is a unit of Iran’s police forces tasked with enforcing the laws on Islamic dress codes in public. Sharia Law requires men and women to dress modestly and abide by arbitrary decisions.
There are no clear rules or details on what types of clothing qualify as inappropriate. It leaves room for personal interpretation and sparks accusations that morality enforcers arbitrarily detain women far more than men.
A month-long uprising is sweeping the Iranian nation sparked by the killing of Mahsa Amini by the Morality Police for refusing to wear her hijab. Despite the brutal repression, nobody expected the uprising to last more than three weeks.
So far, more than 400 protesters have been shot dead by the regime’s repressive forces. Hundreds of protestors have been injured, while more than 20,000 arrested. The uprising is rapidly becoming a movement that the Iranians have never seen before.
In 2009 the Green Movement swept across the Muslim nation but was not supposed to the Obama Administration. It was a protest against the heavily manipulated election results that transformed into a revolt against the Islamic Republic for responding brutally to the peaceful protests.
“In retrospect, I think that was a mistake,” Obama, said Friday, referring to his tepid response to the 2009 movement. “Every time we see a flash, a glimmer of hope, of people longing for freedom, I think we have to point it out.
Iranians in 2009 were already questioning the government’s legitimacy. Many were disillusioned with the leadership. They believed it to be corrupt, dictatorial, and suppressive.
The economy was sinking with high unemployment rates. Iran was given more sanctions by the United Nations causing Iranians to question their leader’s ability to handle foreign policy.
The youths and women in Iran especially felt that their freedoms were limited. Iranians questioned their economic future and their freedom. Women were not given the same rights as men. Many felt it was time for a change from the status quo.
The Iranian people turned to the United States for help, but the Obama Administration turned a blind eye to their plight. President Obama was too concerned with negotiating the Iran Nuclear deal and would, according to reports, covertly send $400 million to the Iranian regime.
Of course, there are denials by the Obama Administration. The Democrats claim there was no money sent to Iran, yet, ironically, several Americans being held hostage by Iran were released immediately following the reports.
Obama overruled advisers who wanted to do what America had done at similar transitions from dictatorship to democracy and signal America’s support. He ordered the CIA to sever contacts with the green movement’s supporters according to The Iran Wars, by the Wall Street Journal’s Jay Solomon.
It was clear from the beginning of Obama’s tenure that he was obsessed with negotiating with the Mullahs of Iran. Obama ended U.S. programs to document Iranian human rights abuses. He wrote personal letters to Iranian Supreme Leader Ayatollah Ali Khamenei promising him the U.S. was not trying to overthrow him.
How many uprisings are going to be brutally put down by the Iranian regime before the world says enough? Nations across the globe are demanding Russia cease its aggression toward Ukraine but they are all remaining silent as the Iranians brutalize their people. Why is that?
