HUGE REPUBLICAN WIN: Biden FORCED to ask SCOTUS reinstate death penalty for Boston Marathon bomber

The Biden administration requested to reinstate the death penalty for Dzhokhar Tsarnaev, the Boston Marathon Bomber.

Last year, the 1st US Circuit Court of Appeals dismissed the capital punishment sentences of a federal jury. The Biden administration’s Acting Solicitor General Elizabeth Prelogar requested this decision be overturned. A brief to the Supreme Court reads, “The court of appeals improperly vacated the capital sentences recommended by the jury in one of the most important terrorism prosecutions in our Nation’s history. This Court should reverse the decision below and put this case back on track toward a just conclusion.”

In 2015, Tsarnaev’s attack at the Boston Marathon killed three Americans and injured hundreds. Tsarnaev and his brother, Tamerlan, detonated two homemade bombs at the end of the race. After the closure of the city and a multiple-day manhunt, the brothers were caught and Tamerlan was killed in a shootout with authorities. In July of 2020, the appeals court dismissed the capital punishment sentences given to Tsarnaev because of “pretrial media exposure” and an insufficiently vetted jury.

At the time, the panel concluded Tsarnaev would be “confined to prison for the rest of his life, the only question remaining being whether the government will end his life by executing him.” In October, the Trump administration and then-Attorney General William Barr agreed to review the decision and legally pursue the capital punishment charges. Despite speaking against the death penalty, the Biden administration has continued these efforts.
