GARBAGE CALIFORNIA: Gov. Newsom declares drought emergency, urges Californians to cut their water use by 15%

Just this past week, California governor Gavin Newsom requested that Californians across the golden state reduce water usage by 15%.

The request extends to not just residents, but to agriculture farms and food producers as well. According to the state’s officials, meeting the outlined target could save enough water to supply 1.7 million households for one year. While the requests are nothing new to Californians, who have experienced droughts intermittently over the past 5-10 years, Newsom stressed that they are nothing more than requests, and urged state citizens to make ‘common sense’ decisions by washing full loads of dishes and laundry.

“Not here as a nanny state. And we’re not trying to be oppressive,” he said. “But nonetheless, the sober reality is such that here we are again, and we will need to proceed with the lessons learned from the last drought”, the California governor said while in San Luis Obispo.

According to Rachel Becker with CalMatters, “Newsom also expanded drought emergency declarations to nine more counties, including three parched Bay Area counties and several along the Central Coast. Fifty counties, home to 42% of the state’s population, are now under drought emergencies.”
