Four-year-old boy found stabbed to death on Dallas street after alleged abduction

A four-year-old boy was found stabbed to death on a Dallas street after allegedly being abducted from his bed by a teen now facing charges for kidnapping.
Cash Gernon’s body was found by a jogger in the city’s Mountain Creek neighborhood around 7am on Saturday according to Assistant Police Chief Albert Martinez. Martinez added that the child appeared to have suffered a violent death from an “edged weapon.” Darriynn Brown, 18, was arrested in the case hours later and was charged with kidnapping and theft. Police said they also anticipate additional charges pending the results of a forensic analysis.

Cash was identified by his mother who claimed Brown had broken into her home through a backdoor early Saturday morning and snatched the child while he was sleeping. Antwainese Square was the jogger who found Cash’s body. She said the boys face and upper body were covered in blood and that he was missing his shoes and shirt. Martinez said that Cash was likely killed around 5am and that he lived in the neighborhood that he was killed in. “We are shocked, we are very angry about what has happened to this small child,” Martinez said. Cash’s mother said the kidnapping was captured by surveillance footage.
