Florida Governor to School Administrators: You Do Not Have To Follow My Mask Policies, You Also Do Not Have To Get Paid

Simply put, Florida Governor Ron DeSantis is taking care of the people in his state, especially school kids. He signed an executive order prohibiting mask mandates in schools.

Now, he is doubling down on that effort, telling district superintendents and school boards that if they circumvent that order and implement mask requirements, they run the risk of not getting paid.

DeSantis’ office released the following statement to CBS 4 Miami:

“With respect to enforcing any financial consequences for noncompliance of state law regarding these rules and ultimately the rights of parents to make decisions about their children’s education and health care decisions, it would be the goal of the State Board of Education to narrowly tailor any financial consequences to the offense committed. For example, the State Board of Education could move to withhold the salary of the district superintendent or school board members, as a narrowly tailored means to address the decision-makers who led to the violation of law.

Education funding is intended to benefit students first and foremost, not systems. The Governor’s priorities are protecting parents’ rights and ensuring that every student has access to a high-quality education that meets their unique needs.”

According to CNN, one school board in the Sunshine state has said they plan to move forward with a mask mandate, but are providing parents with the capability of opting out.

DeSantis, who many believe to be a frontrunner for the 2024 Republican Presidential nomination, has been leading the charge against CDC guidelines pertaining to lockdowns and mandates, as well as potential vaccine passports.

While we read plenty of support for his leadership from Floridians, not everyone appreciates the Governor’s approach to individual freedom and liberty.

Former ESPN Sports Center anchor Keith Olbermann literally called him a “mass murderer” over his COVID policy.
