Florida Gov. Ron DeSantis Seeks to Protect Partying Students amid Coronavirus
The Florida Governor said he wants to seek a “bill of rights” on Friday morning. He wants to protect college students from any sort of punishment for partying during the coronavirus pandemic. While appearing at a virtual public health roundtable on Thursday, DeSantis labeled these types of policies as “draconian.”
“I understand that universities are trying to do the right thing, but I personally think its dramatically draconian that a student could get potentially expelled for going to a party. That’s what college kids do,” DeSantis stated. Colleges have been implementing policies that would suspend/expel students if they were to neglect limiting the size of gatherings.

These remarks come specifically after Florida State University announced last week that it would suspend students for attending large gatherings. DeSantis did not provide more details on what the “bill of rights” would pertain or if he would try to pass it as an executive order.
