Embattled Governor Cuomo Decides To Keep Emmy Award In Aftermath Of Assault Allegations

It was just this week that Raging Patriot reported on the litany of sex abuse allegations levied by 11 women towards New York Democratic Governor Andrew Cuomo. Since then President Biden gave an address where he, albeit lethargically and laconically, called for Cuomo to resign. Additionally, the Governors of the four states sharing common borders with New York have called for his resignation. As the New York Post reports ,”New Jersey Gov. Phil Murphy, Connecticut Gov. Ned Lamont, Pennsylvania Gov. Tom Wolf, and Rhode Island Gov. Dan McKee — all Democrats — said they were “appalled at the findings of the independent investigation by the New York Attorney General. “Governor Cuomo should resign from office,” they added.”.

Echoing the sentiment for resignation have been New York Mayor Bill DeBlasio, Senate Majority Leader Chuck Schumer, as well as House Speaker Nancy Pelosi. As reported further by the New York Post In a joint statement from Schumer and Senator Gillebrand, “Confronting and overcoming the Covid crisis requires sure and steady leadership. We commend the brave actions of the individuals who have come forward with serious allegations of abuse and misconduct,”. They went on to say that “Due to the multiple, credible sexual harassment and misconduct allegations, it is clear that Governor Cuomo has lost the confidence of the governing partners and the people of New York. Governor Cuomo should resign.”.

Following this avalanche of anger, Cuomo, who inexplicably won an Emmy for his “masterful” handling of the COVID pandemic, has not surrendered, nor has he even been told to give back the award in light of these allegations.

As NPR reported that in late-November when the award was announced,”The Governor’s 111 daily briefings worked so well because he effectively created television shows, with characters, plot lines, and stories of success and failure,” the academy’s president and CEO, Bruce Paisner, explained in a statement announcing the decision. “People around the world tuned in to find out what was going on, and New York tough became a symbol of the determination to fight back.”.

The door is still open for the International Academy of Television Arts and Sciences to revoke the Emmy, if for no other reason, to show solidarity to Cuomo’s victims.
