Dr. Fauci’s Restaurant-Owning Relatives Speak Out: ‘He Flip-Flopped’

Dr. Anthony Fauci, one of the lead physicians and immunologists leading the country against the coronavirus, has relatives who own restaurants and they are speaking out against his restrictive policies. Dr. Fauci has a cousin, also named Anthony Fauci, who’s 84 and founded the La Fontana restaurant in Staten Island. He’s not happy with the lockdowns and says they are hurting his and hundreds of other businesses as well.

Anthony Fauci told the New York Post, “They shouldn’t do the lockdowns. Especially now. If you don’t abide by the rules…shut that area down, but don’t shut down the whole industry.” Fauci’s son, Joe, 57, now runs the restaurant in New York and agrees with his dad. He said, “In the beginning, I thought [Dr. Fauci] was fabulous, but then a few times he flop-flopped on different things. He had us all locked down at a tremendous rate. They should have loosened things up when it was slowing down in the summer. Everything else was loosening up except the restaurant business.”

Restaurants have been one of the hardest hit, if not the hardest-hit sectors in the business world because of the coronavirus pandemic and subsequent lockdowns. The National Restaurant Association conducted a study and released the findings in September regarding the impacts of the pandemic on the dining business. Today reported on it and they said, “According to a new survey released by the National Restaurant Association, a staggering 100,000 restaurants have closed on a permanent or long-term basis in the U.S. That’s nearly 1 in 6 restaurants shuttered and 3 million restaurant employees out of work. Restaurants are closing at an alarming rate, and without help, they fear it’s only going to get worse.”

Despite the damaging impacts from the virus shutdowns, Dr. Fauci is still strongly advocating extreme lockdown measures. He has even encouraged canceling Thanksgiving celebrations with family. He said, “You may have to bite the bullet and sacrifice that social gathering, unless you’re pretty certain that the people that you’re dealing with are not infected. That is unfortunately a risk, when you have people coming from out of town, gathering together in an indoor setting. It is unfortunate, because that’s such a sacred part of American tradition – the family gathering around Thanksgiving. But that is a risk.”

In the past, Dr. Fauci said that he’s willing to consider and implement nationwide lockdowns, but recently he’s saying that won’t be necessary and at the same time refusing to give in on getting the country back to normal. He said it was “very concerning” when Florida Governor Ron DeSantis announced that all bars and restaurants could fully reopen.
