Washington, D.C. mayor, Muriel Bowser issued a statement on Twitter condemning the violence and sharing some more information about the incident. She said that it appeared that the cause of the shooting was a dispute between two individuals within their own two vehicles. It is believed that the baseball players, staff, and fans were not the target.

The players and their families were rushed into the dugouts. Fans also rushed down to the dugouts, where everyone was allegedly “packed like sardines”. Nationals manager Dave Martinez said he saw everyone present, fans, players, and staff, as family. Padres player Fernando Tatis said, “There’s no longer players, fans. Everybody’s just people, just human beings out there.” The game resumed on Sunday afternoon.
